The Balding Month, the Grey Week, the Blue Morning, The Hour's Routine, the Minute's Passing Glance

The photo of the gargoyle from Salisbury Cathedral that was yesterday's header is no longer header. I may or not employ headers, but a header that big is annoying to me when I check in to see of I've posted anything new. Six, seven times yesterday, ping-in, scroll down, nothing new, fuck that shit.

New blogfriend Dusty, Hell most vocal Bitch has generously offered to build me a new template, adding "You know my site, so you know what I am capable of."

Sincere thanks. As we become old blogfriends you'll understand the impossibility of my accepting your generous and Kind offer for base and selfish reasons: I like the blegangst. I need the bleg to suck at fluctuating levels day by day for reasons blegometric that I understand and am constantly warned against writing about; I couldn't constantly write about them as much as I do if I didn't control the suck. It's fun! I might avail myself of you for some basic css to c/p now and then, please.

REFUSING AT FIFTY-TWO TO WRITE SONNETS

Thomas Lynch

It came to him that he could nearly count
How many Octobers he had left to him
In increments of ten or, say, eleven
Thus: sixty-three, seventy-four, eighty-five.
He couldn't see himself at ninety-six—
Humanity's advances notwithstanding
In health-care, self-help, or new-age regimens—
What with his habits and family history,
The end he thought is nearer than you think.

The future, thus confined to its contingencies,
The present moment opens like a gift:
The balding month, the grey week, the blue morning,
The hour's routine, the minute's passing glance—
All seem like godsends now. And what to make of this?
At the end the word that comes to him is Thanks.

  1. Yes I did move the soccer blog roll from left to right column.

    ZOMG! Change?!!?

P.S. Your first youtuber is bleeding over into the blogroll. You can set the object width and height to make it fit (I usually use object width="402" height="324".)

  3. Doh, he LIKES it bleeding over into the blogroll.

    (Shaking head sadly.)

I thought your groupies knew these things.

  4. Heh, that's definitely true of the photos, but the youtubes that go wide are a result of the embed coding: 9/10ths of them are 480 wide and fit within but some are 560, and I've learned not to eff with the coding. I'd rather use the 480 but if the song's good enough, oh well.

  5. It's easy to eff with the coding!

There are two places that the width and height are specified, change them both and see. (No one is make you hit publish, you know ;)

  6. I just tried it when grabbing an embed for next post and I can't get it to work, but as I've acknowledged, I'm a techdope. No worries - I'd rather have the odd box with a good song than no song at all.

  7. The only tech junk I mess around with are video sizes because I don't want to accidentally beautify the blog, though along that vein, I hope you haven't permanently retired 'arry.

Each move by Obamadick adds one more dimension to his chess.

Wait, holy crap, Screaming Trees, one band that we've both probably been listening to for the same amount of time, heh.

  8. YouTube lets you decide the size you want. Below the video click "Share" then below the URL click "Embed" then scroll down a bit and pick your size. There are typically four boxes with associated sizes. If you don't like that go to the right and put width "Custom" boxes. They mean pixels (px). It will calculate the height for you (or vice versa). Then grab the code from that box.

Make sense? Or was I obscure and nerdish?

Here is the "Symmetry" code (without the code because the comment thingy hates it) when I put in a width of 300.

    iframe width="300" height="200" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/efz56uXyJO0?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen /iframe

  9. I think the problem may be that I was trying to jam the exact dimensions of the one size into the pixel calculator. That would explain why the one number would change as soon as I typed the second. That and I'm a techdope.

  11. Sasha is right: you can enter your desired width & YouTube will calculate the proportionate height for you. It's so easy even I can do it.

BTW: if you haven't been over lately, you are cordially invited. I've finally finished up the Canetti.

PS: did you happen to run across any good restaurants in Edinburgh, or is it simply a lost cause? We're heading over in August.
