Fifty-Three Today

Hounds of Love has to be one of my three most listened to albums, and the song cycle of side two back in the days of album sides unquestionably the side of music I've listened to most. Dream of Sheep and Under Ice and Waking the Witch and Watching You Without Me and Jig of Life and Hello Earth and finishing with, and you must listen in order like I just did for full kaboom, holyfuck, I love this song:

The line between loving the music and loving the memories the music evokes (and there are ten formative years and three exceptional women when Kate Bush was on the daily soundtrack) has long blurred, but she's one of five in my sillyass desert island game for both reasons.

  1. Is there a CVS or RiteAid on your sillyass desert island?

  2. The line may be thicker or thinner depending on the case, but it's always going to be blurry. Nothing can breathe in a vacuum, except vacuums and the awesomely transformative power of Jürgen. I can't wait to savor a second straight round of 16 exit!

  3. I also run a desert island fantasy, but I try to upgrade the playlist of music and sirens regularly to get rid of the dead stuff, otherwise it's just a crazy old-guy desert island. For example, I am going to miss Amy Winehouse.

  4. Yeah, I try to rotate the other three spots - the only two permanent members are Kate and Pere Ubu - among the living and the dead (not The Dead, who are permanent members of *another* type of desert island list).

  5. No ill meant - they appear here now and then and the guy who wrote the song you're named after will make an appearance here day after tomorrow - but they are on the island of Five Best Nights of My Life, not the island of Favorite Music.
