No one is giving *me* a $600M flying palace and it's my fault Newark Airport is so fucked up, my apologies. If and when my daughter is my age it will be 2058, the Earth will still here, what world will be? Neck Gaiters will be the name of my next band, I am telling you three times our reprogramming is far from complete and ever ongoing: SeatSix, Dr Z, and I disced 27 holes at Seneca past Saturday and 36 holes at Middletown past Sunday and we held zero conversations on our accelerating immiseration and enshittification. Resorting to old and trusted gags a self-indulgent salve, true, and too many WFMU DJs now enjoy their mic-breaks more than playing music and too many now like collaging-in dialogues from movies and television shows, this angers me more happily than contemplating my future refrigerator box home down by Rock Creek where RFK Jr swims. The Blog Days of Summer have started, the AI-bots scrubbing me didn't get the memo. Hey, new Gnod
BREEZEWAY
John Ashbery
Someone said we needed a breezeway
to bark down remnants of super storm Elias jugularly.
Alas it wasn’t my call.
I didn’t have a call or anything resembling one.
You see I have always been a rather dull-spirited winch.
The days go by and I go with them.
A breeze falls from a nearby tower
finds no breezeway, goes away
along a mission to supersize red shutters.
Alas if that were only all.
There’s the children’s belongings to be looked to
if only one can find the direction needed
and stuff like that.
I said we were all homers not homos
but my voice dwindled in the roar of Hurricane Edsel.
We have to live out our precise experimentation.
Otherwise there’s no dying for anybody,
no crisp rewards.
Batman came out and clubbed me.
He never did get along with my view of the universe
except you know existential threads
from the time of the peace beaters and more.
He patted his dog Pastor Fido.
There was still so much to be learned
and even more to be researched.
It was like a goodbye. Why not accept it,
anyhow? The mission girls came through the woods
in their special suitings. It was all whipped cream and baklava.
Is there a Batman somewhere, who notices us
and promptly looks away, at a new catalogue, say,
or another racing-car expletive
coming back at Him?
from an advice-giver of my acquaintance, when asked for ways to have a good time with breezeway
ReplyDeleteTips for Enjoyment:
Don’t Overthink: Let the poem wash over you like a breeze, enjoying its humor and surprises without needing a “point.”
Focus on Favorites: Pick a line, like “It was all whipped cream and baklava,” and imagine its sensory world.
Contextualize Ashbery: Knowing he wrote in a postmodern, post-Beat era (referenced in “peace beaters”) helps frame the poem’s irreverence and fragmentation.
I'm lucky: Ashbery is a jeff-whisperer, like he said, "it hurts this wanting to give a dimension to life when life is precisely that dimension." I can't read much now, as in enjoy like once I read, but I'm working my way through Notes for the Air, only thing that works now
Deletetrump's nominee for surgeon general, casey means, in her 2024 book good energy,
ReplyDeletesuggests a number of strategies to help people “manage and heal the stressors, traumas, and thought patterns that limit us and contribute to our poor metabolic health and thriving.”
One such strategy is to “consider psilocybin-assisted therapy,” referring to the compound found in psychedelic mushrooms. She details her thinking on the subject in a 750-word passage.
“If you feel called, I also encourage you to explore intentional, guided psilocybin therapy,” she wrote. “Strong scientific evidence suggests that this psychedelic therapy can be one of the most meaningful experiences of life for some people, as they have been for me.”
Means refers to psychedelics in her book as “plant medicine.” She describes how she took mushrooms for the first time around Jan. 1, 2021, after she was inspired by “an internal voice that whispered: it’s time to prepare.”
“I felt myself as part of an infinite and unbroken series of cosmic nesting dolls of millions of mothers and babies before me from the beginning of life,” she wrote, adding that in her experience “psilocybin can be a doorway to a different reality that is free from the limiting beliefs of my ego, feelings, and personal history.”
In a newsletter she published in October, Means said she had also used psychedelics to help her make “space to find love at 35.” She wrote that she “did plant medicine experiences with trusted guides” to become ready for partnership, punctuating the line with a mushroom emoji. She noted she was not necessarily making recommendations that others do the same.

1/speaking of "space to find love at 35" - missus charley and i did not get married - the first marriage for each, so far - until my 50th year - she was younger - i had attempted pair bonding while younger, but due to a combination of circumstances i had not yet found the heart of gold with whom i could grow old

Old Charley, unwed till his prime,
At fifty, found love so sublime.
Though younger she be,
His heart, now set free,
Found a gold-hearted mate for all time.
3/previous adventures with psychedelics a quarter century earlier either were ineffective or had a very delayed effect - who knows if it's good or bad>
chris floyd in his most recent tweet posts a series of photos with dialog from M*AS*H - he states This was once the most popular show in the US, and Alan Alda, who was also one of the leading campaigners for the Equal Rights Amendment, was the most popular celebrity in the country. Hard to imagine now.

"War isn't hell. War is war and Hell is hell, and of the two, war is a lot worse."
"How do you figure that, Hawkeye?"
"Easy, Father. Tell me, who goes to Hell?"
"Sinners, I believe."
"Exactly. There are no innocent bystanders in Hell."
