My Fucking Sunny Day

  • I'll have some songs for you later today or more probably tomorrow from last night's Lambchop/Yo La Tengo show -  I don't have the time to process them today, my home wifi crashed, the wifi in this bagel joint for shit, youtube won't upload the videos from my camera I downloaded to hard drive - as well as more thoughts - or not - about one of dozens of five best nights of my life, an astonishing evening. Included will be Lambchop's final song, a stunning cover of Bowie's Young Americans. Meanwhile, quick! some links before they go stale.
  • Yes, Lambchop played the song alluded to in this post's title.
  • Both Kurt and Ira mentioned the complicity of playing music/seeing show while protests take place within two miles of 930. There is a reason 99.9% of all posts here are tagged My Complicity.
  • Ira shouted out The Slickee Boys, said Yo La Tengos first DC show was opening for Slickees at old 930, I guarantee I was there (as was Landru), the first time I saw Yo La Tengo.
  • Rainy night in Oaktown.
  • Shit Tarzie never tweeted: on snitch-jacketing.
  • I know I keep saying it, here, someone else saying it too re: Garner - the system is not broken.
  • War by Media and the Triumph of Propaganda.
  • Hillary Clinton and the men who hate her. Um, it is entirely possible to hate Hillary Clinton because she's a shitty neoliberal pig masquerading as a Democratic populist. Sorry, that's redundant.
  • O brave new world than has such people innit.
  • Frances has a new blog!
  • We got to 930 early, as soon as main floor opened we - Earthgirl, Hamster, me - went to top right far right balcony and got the rail, avoided the floor crush, Earthgirl has not stopped talking about how much she enjoyed the show, has asked me to check schedules for other concerts, so woot.

  1. You were close enough to call out requests, eh? Did you? I mean, I'm assuming YLT took audience requests (from their extensive catalogue) as they always do. Love their audience interaction—no 'rawk star' syndrome.

Also wondering how the acoustics were at that seat. At small fora, I've tried to find sweet spots where the sound waves converge and form a sweet sound bubble. Usually upstairs (one level up) back right or left of center.

Also too, good to see YLT has upgraded their stage costumes. Hahaha.

And what lovely stage monitors! Your pic makes it look like the sound was super clean.

Jealous much, Jim H? Damn right!

    1. This was billed as Yo La Tengo's 30th birthday and Lambchop - YLT have history so when someone shouted out a request Kurt said no, normally we would but tonight I make the requests the setlist is set or something, and when someone shouted out a request to Ira he nodded no. I found the Yo La Tengo setlist online just now, will post it tomorrow.

Earthgirl doesn't like 930-like venues - she wasn't at the Slickee Boys/Yo La Tengo concert - but she likes some of the bands and has a blast at the shows as long as we get to a safe spot and camp. Very OK w/me. So we grabbed the available one.

We'll see a show someday, pints on me.
