Up Against the Wall, Motherfucker

  • RIP Paul Kantner. All Airplane songs in this post are Kantner songs. I love Volunteers, love love love.
  • More Kantner Airplane songs.
  • SeatSix send me a link to this app - you set a time you must continue typing and if you stop for more than five seconds before finishing the allotted time you lose everything you typed. SeatSix knows me. It's only Apple, though, I don't write on my phone. If anyone sees this available for windows, please let me know.
  • This theory behind that app is related, of course, to the theory of first drafts that can ruin an entire tablet of first drafts and why I do it.
  • Which is also related to the resurrection of Hollowtide.
  • Fish self-resurrects, tells universe to fuck off.
  • Last dance in Oregon.
  • Paul Krugman v Bernie Sanders.
  • Random barking.
  • Ceci n'est pas une pipe, part 118.
  • Framing the death of the species. Reminder - Planet will be my age in 2049. What world?
  • Yes, Kantner then went Starship. Today's sillyass Star Trek Allusion Quiz: You know, Gul Macet, Airplane was valued for their originality and spirit, and if Kantner could not find a role for himself after Airplane we can pity him, but we will not dismiss him.

WE CAN BE TOGETHER

Paul Kantner

We can be together
Ah you and me
We should be together
We are all outlaws in the eyes of america
In order to survive we steal cheat lie forge fred hide and deal
We are obscene lawless hideous dangerous dirty violent and young
But we should be together
Come on all you people standing around
Our life's too fine to let it die and
We can be together
All your private property is
Target for your enemy
And your enemy is
We
We are forces of chaos and anarchy
Everything they say we are we are
And we are very
Proud of ourselves
Up against the wall
Up against the wall fred (motherfucker)
Tear down the walls
Tear down the walls
Come on now together
Get it on together
Everybody together
We should be together
We should be together my friends
We can be together
We will be
We must begin here and now
A new continent of earth and fire
Come on now gettin higher and higher
Tear down the walls
Tear down the walls
Tear down the walls
Won't you try.Up

the time i wrote about paul kantner's work for publication is quoted at http://tinyurl.com/gt8umnl

and speaking of people named paul, you have two links to ian welsh's remarks about krugman's attack on sanders - could you have had a different article in mind for ceci n'est pas une pipe?

    1. Fixed, thanks. I hadn't had chance to double-check yet.

  3. What world indeed. I have taken to the idea that people 30+ years younger than me (as my older daughter is) actually live in an alternate universe. We manage to communicate but only because of the rigid strictures of language: subject object verb and so on though clearly the referents are different. Syntax is salvation I guess.

  4. Another one gone. Last live Kantner for me was the Airplane's appearance in Golden Gate Park in 1969. 'Volunteers' was released that year, and people much more into the nuance of music and musicians that I was debated its Relative Merits against prior music. I didn't know about all that then, and don't now; I just liked it, too.

Krug Man vs. Sanders: How much does current polling reflect a general feeling that there's Bad JuJu out there, and candidates wired into TPTB (Clinton; Bush) can only find solutions at the expense of everyone but the Owner Class? I guess we'll find out.

If a vote for Bernie will result in corporate banksters, hedge fund managers and pinheaded, inbred Oligarchs doing the air dance in their monogrammed slippers from the nearest lamp-posts, while their palatial homes are turned into day care centers and homes for the aged and infirm, I'm down with it.
