When He Laughed, Respectable Senators Burst with Laughter

I don't do birthdays here like once and as a result don't check the website I used to check everyday everyday anymore. I missed Hecht's, for instance. I didn't miss Bowie's but didn't post a Bowie birthday post this past January. For years I've posted a big fat W.H. Auden birthday post every February 21, not today (and not last year either?), here is the big fat post as link today, Auden born 116 years ago today. Let's see if George shows up here four days from today. Wooo! too, though probably not

Recognizing the war is lost
U.S. President Joe Biden is in Kiev today to rescue his lunatic project of destroying Russia by proxy war. But there is no good way to do that. A review of 'western' media shows that the inevitable outcome of the war is now recognized. The only still open alternatives are to risk a large nuclear war or to retreat from 'western' dreams of its permanent hegemony.

EPITAPH OF A TYRANT

W.H. Auden

Perfection, of a kind, was what he was after,
And the poetry he invented was easy to understand;
He knew human folly like the back of his hand,
And was greatly interested in armies and fleets;
When he laughed, respectable senators burst with laughter,
And when he cried the little children died in the streets.
