  1. “One of the penalties of an ecological education is that one lives alone in a world of wounds. Much of the damage inflicted on land is quite invisible to laymen. An ecologist must either harden his shell and make believe that the consequences of science are none of his business, or he must be the doctor who sees the marks of death in a community that believes itself well and does not want to be told otherwise.”

  2. A) I always forget to mention that I was at the college Bob Mould was at, the year he was at it ('78) but I deliberately forget it because it's a trivial stat.... BUT... I became a brief star of snark, within my circle, that year, when, while several of us were in the Hippest Beatnik Java Spot, at the beginning of the Fro Yo craze in the Upper Midwest, I gently vandalized one of those nice white signs with magnetic lettering on it; the sign read FROZEN YOGURT before I detourned it. I leave it to you to picture my handiwork. Is it impossible to imagine that Bob Mould walked in, just as I was leaving (a full 18 months his elder, I would have smirked at the top of his head in passing)... and my little joke entered BM's consciousness and percolated 5-ish years et... voila... ZEN ARCADE?

    B) The IDF kills Israeli hostages (as mentioned in another post here) to cut down on those very damaging reports, from liberated Israelis, formerly held hostage by Hamas, that "the enemy" are humans and often surprisingly humane, too, with a reasonable list of grievances, contrary to what Israelis have been told all their lives. "Hannibal Directive" is Hebrew for "KAYFABE (and the defense thereof)" .
